2 Peter 3:11-18 - Jesus is Coming Again, Soon
Peter finishes his letter by reminding believers of the soon coming of Jesus. Jesus will bring the Day of the Lord, and with the promise of his coming there will be a New Heavens and a New Earth. Since this is true, we ought to live out our lives in holiness and godliness.

Peter reminds the beloved children of God to be ready for the second coming of Jesus Christ. He reminds us that in the last days there will be scoffers that willfully forget what God has promised to those who believe.

False teachers will seek to undermine the sufficiency of Christ or the sufficiency of Scripture, by trying to get us to buy into either legalism or licentiousness. We can protect ourselves from them by walking in grace & looking to the cross.

Near the end of his life, Peter reminds the church of the gospel. Peter was an eyewitness of the majesty of Jesus, and we can know him through the Holy Spirit inspired Word of God.

Peter closes his letter by exhorting the Elect Exiles to be sober minded and watchful because of our adversary, the devil. Knowing who the devil is and how he is seeking to devour will help us to resist him by standing firm in our faith.

In these last days we are called to live holy lives in hope and expectation of the end of all things. Peter exhorts the Elect Exiles to put on Christ-like qualities since the Kingdom is at hand.

Peter reminds us about how Jesus suffered, and he calls us to have the same mindset as Jesus. A Christ like mindset will be done with sin and will long for heaven.

Peter reminds those who suffer that Jesus also suffered. It was the suffering of Jesus that accomplished our salvation. He died once for sin and he rose again and is now reigning from heaven.

The life of God is found in keeping our eyes squarely focused on Christ and seeing Him as He is (holy, holy, holy).

These verses tell us that what should come out of all of us as submissive people are unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, tender-heartedness, humility of mind, and blessings on others, even when they persecute us.
