1 John 4:1-12 - The Test of Truth and Love
John tells the little children not to believe every spirit, but to test spirits to see whether they are from God. Jesus is the test. By knowing who Jesus is, and what he has done, we can know God.
1 John 3:16-24 - A Life of Faith, Hope, and Love
The life of God is found in the living. This living is done and built upon faith, hope, and love. It is a contrast to the death that is seen in the life of those who are of the devil.
1 John 3:4-15 - Who is Your Father?
In a very direct way, John says that a person who practices righteousness is a child of God, and a person who practices sin is a child of the devil. Jesus appeared to take away sin and destroy the works of the devil. We can be children of God through Jesus, the Son of God.
1 John 2:28-3:3 - A Purifying Hope
The hope of Jesus coming again is a hope that purifies the believer. We are called to abide in Jesus so that when he appears we will have confidence and not shrink back from him in shame. The children of God will live righteously because we have the Father's love bestowed upon us.
1 John 2:18-27 - Christian or Antichrist
John writes to the church to warn against deception in the last hour. To avoid deceptions Christians must have a revelation from the Holy Spirit of the person and the work of Jesus Christ.
1 John 2:12-17 - Walking in the Light
God gives us things to help us walk in the light - each other, forgiveness, our relationship with God through Christ, being overcomers of the evil one, the power of the Spirit, and the Word. While we face challenges with living in this sinful world, we are still called to love people by serving others as ambassadors for Christ.
1 John 2:1-11 - Family Resemblance
John writes to the family of God so that we will not sin. If we do sin we have an advocate in Jesus, praise God! If we say we know God we will have a family resemblance - we will walk as Jesus walked and that is to walk in love.
1 John 1:5-10 - Walk in the Light
God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. As Christians we are to walk in the light. If we walk in the light we have fellowship with God and one another, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.
1 John 1:1-4 - Eternal Life Manifested
In the opening words of 1 John, the Apostle John testifies about hearing, seeing, and touching Jesus. Jesus is the eternal God who manifested in the flesh and showed us eternal life. Jesus is fully God and fully man, and he is the savior of the world.
Mark 16:15-20 - Sent and Empowered
Before Jesus ascended to heaven he commanded his disciples to go into all the world and proclaim the gospel. What God commands he also enables. God gives us the power of the Holy Spirit to fulfill the Great Commission.
Mark 16:1-14 - Jesus is Alive!
On the first day of the week the women went to the tomb and discovered that the stone had been rolled away. Jesus is alive! Jesus rose from the dead, and then he appeared to multiple eyewitnesses. The Resurrection is the proof that Jesus is the Son of God, and he is worthy of our belief and service.
