After a strong warning, we receive a strong encouragement to anchor our souls in the hope of Jesus. As we patiently endure with faith we are to move onward and upward in our heavenly calling.

A strong warning is given to those who are not moving toward maturity in Jesus Christ. That is a dangerous and scary place to be, because there are some who have fallen away from Jesus because they remained in immaturity.

Spiritual maturity comes as we hear the Word of God with faith. Therefore, we are warned to not become dull of hearing.

The rest of God is available to all who believe the gospel message. The message of how to enter the rest can be heard, but if the message is not mixed with faith, you will enter the rest. The rest of God is salvation in Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit speaks to us through the word of God, and he tells us to hear the voice of Jesus today. If we want to hear God's voice, then we must not harden our hearts by the deceitfulness of sin and unbelief. The Israelites in the wilderness are an example of what hardened unbelief does.

As holy brothers and sisters in Christ, who share in a heavenly calling, we must consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession. When we consider Jesus it is clear that he is better than all else. For the Hebrews it was important for them to see that Jesus is better than Moses.

We receive the first warning in Hebrews: we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. There is the danger of drifting away from the message of Jesus, and neglecting the salvation that he offers. How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?

God added humanity to his deity in the person of Jesus Christ. The writer of Hebrews proves that Jesus, the Son of God, is much more superior to angels by quoting seven Old Testament scriptures. Jesus is not an angel, he is God.

The book of Hebrews begins unlike most New Testament letters. Instead of stating the author and the recipient of the letter, it gets right into its main subject - Jesus. The introduction to Hebrews gives seven attributes of Jesus, the Son of God.
